California Avenue

I moved to California Avenue in August and have enjoyed exploring my new neighborhood. This community has so many hidden gems! I can’t believe I didn’t come here more often during the whole time I’ve been at Stanford.

First installment of photos — Let me know where else I should explore!

All photos taken on the iPhone. Yay, awesome iPhone cam!
Splash photo: I saw the cutest puppy outside Starbucks this morning!

Culture Organic Frozen Yogurt

Original frozen yogurt topped with chunks of
freshly-made chocolate chip cookies.

Joanie’s Cafe

Crépe of the Day made with prosciutto, green onions, mushrooms, and brie topped with scrambled eggs, avocado, and cream cheese — served with fresh fruits and Earl Grey. I love the extra chewiness of the crépe.

Cafe Brioche

Omelette of the Day made with shrimps, asparagus, bell peppers, and chedder cheese — served with herbed potatoes. I also like the namesake brioche bread, buttery and chewy inside and crispy and crunchy outside.

Fambrini’s Terrace Cafe

The best lunch spot on this side of Palo Alto.
Louisiana hotlink sandwich on toasted sub roll with
mayo, dijon, mayo, lettuce, tomato, red onion,
and melted provolone cheese. YUM!

Polish Deli

Polish sausages in a baguette
with spicy mustard and sauerkraut.

Simply Sandwiches

Delicious pastrami in ciabatta bread. I finally checked out this highly-rated lunch venue today. Fresh bread, freshly-sliced pastrami, fresh tomatoes and lettuce, … Mmmm… What more can I ask for? So Good!!! (Oh, and all for just over $4)

La Bodeguita del Medio

Caribbean Curry with mild coconut curry,
fresh & juicy sauteed shrimps, thinly sliced plantains
and yuca, greens, and peppers over white rice.
Also notable at La Bodeguita is their Cajun paella, a.k.a. jambalaya (will try to get a photo in a future post).

Tandoori Oven

Special of the day: tender karahi fish in a light and flavorful curry with sauted onions and green peppers… with naan bread, rice, and veggies
